Position Summary

Pie Consulting & Engineering (Pie) is seeking a personable, highly motivated and qualified individual to join our fast-paced Eden Prairie, MN team in a full-time Technician role. The optimal applicant will thrive in a rapidly changing environment and enjoy working on multiple projects, particularly in the field. This Building Science Technician will support the group by performing field testing and report preparation on new construction and major renovation projects. The responsibilities for this position include performing targeted Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) testing and documentation including; water performance testing with leak source identification, infrared thermography surveying, intrusive examination, Air Barrier Testing, and Electronic Leak Detection. This position will also support the team by performing quality assurance observations during the construction phase.

Responsibilities

  1. Performs standardized or prescribed BECx testing on new and existing building
  2. Gathers and maintains specified records of technical data such as test and drawings, performs computations, plots data or draws, graphs and charts
  3. Assists in conducting evaluation tests and experiments designed to provide a desired result under controlled conditions
  4. Provide field support to Engineers and Project Managers
  5. Conduct site evaluations/QA observations under the discretion of seasoned professionals
  6. Manage time effectively using the department look ahead planner
  7. Produces initial draft of work product including test and observation reports
  8. Proactively keep clients and stakeholders informed of project status and changes
  9. Build and maintain relationships with new and existing clients by acting as a trusted advisor
  10. Explore opportunities to enhance service with or up-sell existing clients/projects
  11. Ensure personal utilization consistently averages at 95%

  • Previous experience working with project budget management

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/Equivalent required
  • Associate Degree or Certificate in Engineering or Construction Technology preferred
  • A Roofing Consultants Institute (RCI) certification (RRO, RRC, RWC, REWC) preferred
  • 1 year experience in building construction industry with preferred education or 3 years’ experience with High School Diploma/Equivalent
  • Specialized focus in 1 or more industry areas of technical expertise (Roofing, enclosure testing, knowledge of EIFS, Metal Panel and ACM, Hard coat stucco and stone veneers, etc)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and preferably PDF software (BlueBeam)
  • Ability to carry 50 lbs is required and physically able to climb in and around structures/buildings
  • Ability to travel throughout Minnesota and surrounding regions
