Cherrity Festival Raises Hopes, Funds for Anchor Center

Arvada, Colorado (October 13, 2011) – Local businesses and community members alike came together on September 17, 2011 to celebrate the first-annual Cherrity Pie Festival benefitting Anchor Center for Blind ChildrenPie Consulting & Engineering (Pie) hosted the inaugural event which drew in at least 350 attendees and raised $17,000 in charitable donations for Anchor Center.

Anchor Center for Blind Children is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching visually impaired infants, young children and their families, while providing hope and a nurturing environment where children reach their highest potential.

“Funds from the event will help medically fragile children benefit from home visits by our teachers and therapists and children living in rural areas will receive services either in their homes or a clinic setting,” said Kristine Wolfe, Anchor Center Development Director. “Funds will also support the preschool program by teaching children pre-literacy skills using Braille and by providing orientation and mobility training (cane training) and daily living training which includes activities such as dressing, table manners, and proper use of utensils along with fun field trips to learn other life skills,” added Wolfe.

“Anchor Center is an outstanding organization that has a positive impact on the lives of visually impaired children and their families here in Colorado,” said Paul Duncan, President of Pie Consulting & Engineering.  “At Pie, we realize it is so important to help all children reach their full potential so that they can lead meaningful, productive lives.  Meeting Anchor Center families reinforced the importance of our event, and we feel incredibly touched by the participation from all the sponsors and attendees of the first-ever Cherrity Pie Festival,” added Duncan.

The Cherrity Pie Festival featured all things pie including: a pie bakeoff, pie walk, pie relay race, pie eating contest, and pie feuds.  Other activities included a corn maze and hay rides.
