Field Testing for New Colorado Judicial Center

Arvada, Colorado (November 10, 2011) – Pie Consulting & Engineering (Pie) recently began multi-phase field performance testing on the all-new Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Complex (CJC) in downtown Denver.

Construction of the complex was undertaken by Mortenson Construction with Trammell Crow Company serving as financial developer, and Fentress Architects serving as the project architect.

The CJC consists of a 204,814-square-foot Courthouse building adjoining a 12-story, 600,000-square-foot Office building. The $258-million complex is expected to be completed in the spring of 2013.

Pie is contracted to perform air and water leakage tests on a variety of installed assemblies including aluminum-framed curtain walls, a structural glass wall, clerestory windows, and two large custom skylights. Performance and diagnostic testing will be accomplished in accordance with ASTM E783 (air leakage performance), ASTM E1105 (water leakage performance), and AAMA 501.2 (water leakage diagnostic).

Upon completion of the project in the spring of 2013, the CJC will accommodate the consolidation of (7) judicial and legal agencies from 10 different locations, including Colorado’s State Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, the State Court Administrator, the Attorney General’s Office, and several other judicial-related state offices and agencies.

Pie’s Building Science Group provides building enclosure commissioning (BECx) and exterior building envelope consulting services including: design development guidance, technical design review and analysis, shop drawing and submittal reviews, quality assurance observations, customized training programs, and specialized building performance testing and diagnostic services (whole building air barrier, water, thermal, wind uplift, etc.) for both the new and retrofit design and construction industries.
