Pie Project Receives LEED ID Credit for BECx

Arvada, Colorado (March 15, 2012) – Pie Consulting & Engineering (Pie) assisted Hensel Phelps Construction Company with the design and construction of the 47th Brigade Combat Team Dining Facility project, located in Fort Carson, Colorado which recently received a LEED Innovation in Design (ID) credit for building enclosure commissioning (BECx).

Project Profile:

  • Pie performed BECx for air, water, thermal, and vapor assemblies on the 23,977-square-foot dining facility.fort-carson-becx-300x225
  • Design phase services included: design development consultation and charrette meeting participation, construction document plan and specification reviews, construction sequencing detail provisions for fenestration and curtain wall interfacing, and hygrothermal vapor transmission analysis of roof assemblies.
  • Pie conducted mock-up construction observations and water performance testing, on-site quality assurance observations and reporting, ASTM E1105 and E783 water and air performance testing of fenestrations and curtain walls, as well as whole building air barrier testing and infrared diagnostics in accordance with the U.S. Army Corps protocol, ASTM E779, E1827, C1060, and E1186.

Pie delivered a comprehensive and thorough water/air infiltration prevention design review and testing package for our project at a reasonable cost.  The added details, testing, and field observations proved priceless in ensuring that a quality building was delivered to the owner,” – Jonathan Stevens, Hensel Phelps Project Engineer.
