Pie’s Experts to Present at PLRB Regional Conferences

The premier claims trade group Property & Liability Resource Bureau (PLRB) has tapped several experts at Pie Consulting & Engineering to present on two important topics at its upcoming regional conferences around the country.

PLRB’s regional conferences deliver outstanding claims training and education to expand claim knowledge of front-line adjusters, supervisors and managers and boost their job performance. The regional conference address critical claims topics relevant to each region.

Pie’s Vice President-Midwest Brian Erickson, P.E. and Forensic Sciences Department Manager Dustin Smoot will be speaking on Commercial Roofing Damages and Repairs while Pie Project Manager Shannon Pierce, P.E., will present on Agricultural Loss Adjustments.

The speaking events will be at the following conference locations:

  • PLRB Western Conference, June 14-15 in Riverside, CA
  • PLRB Central Conference, Sept 6-7 in New Orleans, LA
  • PLRB Eastern Conference, Oct. 4-5 in Jacksonville, FL

Pierce will present with Tom Carlson, director of field claims at North Star Mutual Insurance.

Their discussion includes a review of typical coverage afforded in current farmers/ranchers insurance policies and how to apply coverage accurately in a variety of agricultural losses. They also will review traditional types of equipment found on many farms and ranches as well as evaluate various forms of new technology equipment, including drones, now being used in agriculture that are subject to loss and damage.

“The agricultural industry is a critical industry not only in the upper Midwest but around the United States,” said Shannon Pierce, P.E., a project manager at Pie. “Agricultural facilities, livestock, equipment, and crops are the main assets to any farm, and are all insured. We will be presenting the most common damages to these assets, how to handle typical claims, and even include a live tutorial on the use of drones, which are becoming a key factor in assessing damages to large farms.”

Erickson and Smoot will present with Thomas H. Blomstrom, partner at Foran Flennon Palandech on Commercial Roofing Damages and Repairs.

In this presentation, Erickson and Smoot will describe common types of roof and damage patterns with commercial buildings and separate covered losses from wear and tear, faulty materials or installation. They also will evaluate various repair vs. replacement options and review litigation strategies with large commercial roof claims.

“We’re hopeful the information presented will be useful to adjusters of all experience levels, as commercial roof claims are frequently more complex compared to steep slope claims,” Erickson said.  “While this topic could be the subject of an extensive week-long seminar, we are grateful for the opportunity to pass along our experience with these roof systems.”
