The Hotel & Train Station project is part of DIA’s South Terminal Redevelopment Program (STRP) and marks the continuation of the original vision of the airport. Gensler’s design for the STRP will both strengthen DIA’s connection to the city’s urban core and turn the airport itself into a travel destination. The $500 million project includes the design and construction of a 519-room Westin hotel and conference center, a Public Transit Center, including an RTD East Rail Line station and a public plaza for community programming and events that connects the development to the existing Jeppesen Terminal.
Pie was retained by the Mortenson-Hunt-Saunders Tri-Venture team to provide design review of four enclosure packages, design phase meetings, shop drawing/submittal reviews, mock-up observations and reporting, QC checklist development, quality assurance observations throughout construction, air infiltration and water penetration testing, electronic leak detection testing, and on-call consulting services.
“Our recent and extensive experience working with Pie on the DIA HTC project for 4 years of construction, included an exterior enclosure envelope consisting of curtainwall, cable wall, storefront, architectural precast, hot fluid waterproofing, TPO roofing, and metal panel. The Saunders team could not have been more impressed by the in depth knowledge the Pie team provided, and also the level of professionalism maintained during a project with many difficulties. We were very pleased with the outcome of the project from both a construction standpoint and a relationship standpoint with Pie, and look forward to working with them on future projects.”
