Science Museum of Minnesota

Project Overview

The Science Museum of Minnesota is one of the region’s premier education centers and tourist attractions. Pie Consulting & Engineering was selected to evaluate the Science Museum of Minnesota’s exterior façade and roof systems and prepare construction documents as the designer of record for the $26M Building Preservation Project.

Using state of the art technology, including infrared thermography, thermal modeling, pressurization diagnostics and application of building science principles, Pie’s evaluation determined the appropriate scope of repairs within the Building Preservation Project. Pie is also serving as the designer of record for the façade work, which will provide the museum with a fresh and dynamic appearance while maintaining the integrity of the original design intent.

“We are honored to be a part of the Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM) building preservation project team,” said Brian Erickson, Pie’s Vice President – Midwest. “SMM represents the promise of technology with a rich environment for learning and discovery. The updated façade will provide future visitors, including my own children who love the Omnitheater and exhibits, a new and exciting experience that is sure to be enjoyed by multiple generations.”
