Ellington Airport officially opened its new, state-of-the-art air traffic control tower in March 2109. The $12.4 million project replaces the former air traffic control tower, which was built in 1955. The new tower stands 143 feet tall, nearly twice the height of the 1955 tower. Featuring new radios to improve communication with planes, the tower will support its general aviation tenants and future operations at the Houston Spaceport. The new tower is vital to the continuation of all Ellington Joint Reserve Base military and aviation missions, and all other general aviation activities.
Pie provided performance testing services for the Ellington Field Air Traffic Control Tower project. Services included ASTM E783 and E1105 Air & Water Penetration Testing and AAMA 501.2 Water Testing of select curtain wall systems.
